Registrations are now open for three annual events that promote healthy eating in Central Coast schools and early childhood services.
Vegie Month
Early childhood education and care services can now register for Vegie Month. Running from Monday 4 to Friday 29 March, Vegie Month encourages services to include vegetable-focused nutrition learning experiences for children aged 0 to 5 in daily routines. This includes nutrition learning experiences like experiments, songs, stories, art, discussions or gardening. The theme for 2024 will be ‘Putting veg under the microscope’, with activities exploring vegetables through a science lens.
Last year, more than 770 services (44,000 children) across NSW participated in Vegie Month, and it is hoped this year’s event will be even bigger.
Services who register will receive an electronic resource pack. This includes an educator manual, science related activities and a recipe eBook.

Vegetable Week and The Big Vegie Crunch
Primary schools can now register for Vegetable Week and The Big Vegie Crunch.
Vegetable Week will run from Monday 18 March to Friday 22 March and aims to build healthy eating habits and teach schoolchildren about vegetables. During Vegetable Week, teachers can use fun and easy resources to put vegetables in the spotlight.
The Big Vegie Crunch is the main event of Vegetable Week and is an attempt by NSW primary school students to break the record for the highest number of children eating vegetables simultaneously – and to get kids excited about vegetables. The Big Vegie Crunch will be held on Thursday 21 March at 10am.
Last year, more than 46,000 primary school students across NSW joined The Big Vegie Crunch.
