Preventing falls in public places

Did you know that 1 in 4 people over the age of 65 will fall at least once during the next 12 months?

Falls are preventable. Act now!

Did you know a fall only takes a second, but you can lose years that would have been better spent enjoying an appropriately active life?

Take simple steps to make the public environment as "fall proof" as possible!

  • Take your time getting on and off buses and trains
  • Do your shopping at "quiet" times
  • Report any spills in shopping centres to the management
  • Report any uneven footpaths to Council
  • Wear safe shoes with slip resistant soles to help you keep your balance
  • If you use a walking aid, glasses, or hearing aid, always remember to take them with you
  • Use handrails on steps and stairs
  • Take your time and plan ahead so you don't rush
